Things We Let Go of but Never Really Leave Behind
And maybe that is okay, because if we hold them in our hearts, they never truly leave us.
There are things in life we think we’ve moved past, people and places and dreams. And yet, down deep within us, they stubbornly remain, woven into the very tapestry of our being. We let them go because life demands it. But they never truly leave. They sleep there, slumbering in the crevices of our hearts at strange moments: a tune we used to like on the radio, a street corner we used to walk down, or even a scent reminding us of a lost moment.
We convince ourselves that we are healed, that we’ve moved on from the relationships that didn’t work out or from dreams that never manifested. But some bonds are so deep, some dreams so vivid that time cannot erase them. Maybe it’s the old friend you no longer speak with but who shaped who you became. Or maybe it’s the passion you once chased-a career or art form that set your soul on fire but was beaten back by circumstances into submission.
The truth is that all these things-the people and dreams we feel we have left behind exist in different forms with us. They can be felt in our growth, in the lessons they taught us, and in how they quietly influence our decisions. They’ve chiseled how we love, the way we approach life’s challenges, and even the way we dream today.
Letting go doesn’t always mean a forever goodbye. It may just give those pieces of your past a new place in your story. They may no longer be the main character, but they are part of the foundation.
They become a part of who we are, a part of our essence, that quiet strength, and these invisible threads.
