You are what you stay quiet about
You stay quiet, while a war happens within you.
I define myself by what I say, the roles I play, and the labels I wear. On the other hand, perhaps we are really defined by what we keep hidden: you are what you stay quiet about. This phrase speaks to the depths of our silent emotions, fears, and dreams. Usually, unsaid stories reveal more about who we are than the words we speak aloud, especially those we wrestle with in secret when no one is around to notice.
It is easy to fashion an outer self and curate it for the whole world to see. However, inside, with no noise, is where the real me lies. Those could be the passions we held back, the pain never told, or love waited to be uttered. Quiet doesn't mean those things disappear. They lie there, molding our choices, actions, even people, relationships.
In the quietness of our silence, is where our truer selves live. It's where we learn what we're being quiet about so that we may find and discover parts of ourselves needing healing, care, or just a little bit of courage. We are not just the sounds of the breath; we are also the silences in between, and this unsaid truth that waits to be acknowledged.
